Princeton Lightwave Inc. (PLI) is an established enterprise with more than a decade of experience delivering best-in-class photonic components, modules, and sub-systems. We strive to achieve unique device-level capabilities, and this focus has resulted in industry-leading performance for numerous III-V compound semiconductor detectors and sources operating at short-wave infrared (SWIR) wavelengths. Notable device technologies include the highest performance single photon detectors available commercially for SWIR operation, as well as the highest power laser diodes operating in this wavelength range.
PLI also leverages exceptional integration capabilities to provide customers with solutions that meet a wide variety of interface requirements spanning component, module, and sub-system levels. Expertise in optical, mechanical, electrical, and firmware engineering enables us to incorporate our core semiconductor device technology into customer-adapted OEM solutions such as cameras, receivers, and fiber-coupled high-power optical sources.
Originally founded as a spin-off from Sarnoff Corp. in 2000 and re-organized by current management in 2003, PLI is a small business headquartered near Princeton, NJ, where it draws on a large pool of top engineering talent in optical technologies. The company has broad expertise in InGaAs semiconductor devices, optoelectronic packaging, and high reliability manufacturing, and it possesses significant intellectual property and know-how related to photonic device design, fabrication, and related assembly processes. Prior to re-organizing PLI, the management and other key technical personnel worked as a highly successful team at JDSU and Epitaxx, where they managed the world’s largest merchant InGaAs photodetector business serving telecommunications, instrumentation, and defense customers. The team has extensive experience in advanced technology development, rapid new product realization, and high volume manufacturing, and the company also has an outstanding track record for transitioning government-funded R&D programs into industry-leading commercial products.
