About Bestcare OBGYN: Michael J. Straker
Dr. Straker is a 1995 graduate of The Johns Hopkins University where he earned his B.A. in Biology. He earned his medical degree in 1999 at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, City University of New York, where he received honors in several clinical rotations and served as a Teaching Assistant in Anatomy. He completed his Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey, where he was the recipient of the Resident Teaching Award as a Chief Resident. He has admitting privileges at Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville, NJ, St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ, and St. Michaels Medical Center in Newark, NJ. Dr. Straker has been the Director of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Clara Maass since 2009, and is the Co-Chair of the minimally invasive surgical steering committee.
Dr. Straker is Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the National Medical Association and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists (F.A.C.O.G.). He currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Neighborhood Health Services Corporation (formerly the Plainfield Health Center) in Plainfield, New Jersey. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor of the Department of OB/GYN at The New York College of Osteopathic Medicine of New York Institute of Technology. In this capacity, he teaches Obstetrics and Gynecology to the medical students rotating through Clara Maass Hospital. Dr. Straker is licensed to practice medicine in the state of New Jersey (License #25MA07470800) and is certified in numerous areas including Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring and Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
Dr. Straker believes in staying active within the community. Among other volunteer efforts, he has participated as a mentor within the New York City public school system and is an active member of the Montclair Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
