About Argyle Restaurant
The Argyle Restaurant opened its doors over 50 years ago with only a few tables, a small gift store, and a takeout counter. Our goal was to sell the highest quality, most authentic tasting Scottish style Fish & Chips to the large population of Scots & Irish immigrants who had settled in Kearny. Due to the huge popularity of the familiar staple food, the restaurant quickly expanded to its present 132-seat capacity.
Using our original recipe, our famous Fish & Chips remains our specialty dish. We use fresh, all-natural fish that is delivered daily. The Argyle’s menu has expanded to include other Scottish cuisine such as meat pies, bridies, haggis, sausages, and other fresh fish specials, as well as some American favorites. Our restaurant is a casual BYOB dining establishment, family friendly, and includes a children’s menu. We offer both take-out and eat-in environments.
The Argyle has been featured on several television programs, in New Jersey Monthly magazine, as well as in many local newspapers. We still attract a largely Scottish, Irish and English clientele from all over the country and around the world – we frequently encounter visitors from Scotland and Ireland
just dropping in for some “home cooked
food.” Each January, we hold a weeklong
celebration to commemorate the birthday of Scotland’s Bard, Robert Burns. At the birthday celebration, we recite (with help from our audience) Burns’ famous “Address to the Haggis,” complete with a real haggis, bagpiping, and Scottish Highland dancing.
We provide catering services at your location for all occasions, including church and school fundraisers, with prices starting at $6.95 per person. The Argyle can also provide on-site catering for picnics and block parties – we’re not just fish & chips anymore! We can also provide a private room within the restaurant for large parties for funeral repasts, showers, birthdays, etc.
