About Us

What inspired you to start  Inspiring Dreams Achieving Change (IDAC)?

My inspiration to start my life coaching business came from a mixture of my own and others
experiences, together with an introduction to life coaching two day course run by The Coaching Academy (http://www.the-coaching-academy.com/coaching-course/free-coach-training.asp).

What was the set up process for IDAC?
I went to Outset Torbay workshops which supported me to put time aside to develop my idea into something which could work as a business model.  Outset also offered the opportunity to meet other people who were going through the same process of setting up a business.  http://www.outsettorbay.co.uk/

How would  you describe yourself as a person ?

I am a well educated, active member of the community.  I graduated from Plymouth
University with a BA hon in Education Studies in July 2008 after a top up year for my
FdA in Early Steiner Education.  Both started developing my passion to challenge how
people respond to difference, and the stereotype of 'normal'.

What were you doing before you started this business? What is your career background?

Since finishing university I have developed my skills working within the third sector as a paid member of staff and as a volunteer.  From 2010 until 2013 I was employed by a local Devon charity as a Development Worker.  My role was to work within the disabled community to support people to
have an influence on services.  I learnt a lot through this role including being able to lead formal and informal meetings, working both one to one and leading groups at a strategic level and within the community.  I create a bimonthly newsletter to highlight opportunities to get involved locally, regionally and nationally.  I also worked with a team to develop the process of ensuring consultations were accessible to those who asked to be involved.  I have volunteered on my local and national project for over 15 years. This has helped develop my skills in befriending and sharing information accessible to people, leading formal and informal training sessions and giving speeches to hundreds of people, mostly around my experience as a disabled person.  For the past 2 years I have been part of the All Parliamentary Group for young disabled people, which has involved bimonthly meetings at the Houses of Parliament, giving views and experience on issues that affect me e.g. access to transport and wheelchair services.  Alongside all these skills I bring my experience of being a disabled person.  As a result I have managed a team of three staff, which involved recruitment, supervision and looking after the budgets.

How would you describe your new business ?

Inspiring Dreams Achieving Change is a Life Coach and Consultancy Business.  IDAC will offer two Life Coaching Workshops:   Dream Plan: a one off workshop -  an introduction to dream planning and Life Plan: a four session course which supports people to create a life plan to make dreams happen.  The consultancy service challenges how  people think about disability.  As well offering disabled people an independent support planning service which can be one to one or an additional session after completing the life plan.

What are you plans for the future ?
My plan is to start to develop my business within  Devon and develop on-line workshops and support.
How would you like your business to develop ?

I would like IDAC  to become a social enterprise which offers a support service to those people who have ac cessed IDAC courses.
