FAMILY OWNED SINCE 1985!
In 1985, soon after arriving in NJ from Italy, the Capra family opened a tiny pizzeria called Robert’s in Newark on the corner of New and Washington Streets. The pizza was authentic and within a few years, they were able to expand. Those were interesting times in Newark; for a time, The Village Voice was printed in Robert's basement. By 1999, the Rutger’s Law School was established across Washington Street and Robert’s became a campus tradition for thousands of students. Two decades later, when alumni visit Rutgers, they still make a pilmigrage to Robert’s Pizzeria to reminisce about their student days.
In 2008, the Miller family took over from the Capra’s, keeping many of the old staff and well loved recipes. Martin and his brother Jackie, together with Martin’s son Josh and daughter Aly, added innovations and expanded the menu but keeping all the old favorites.
Thanks to the Millers’ robust network of friends, acquaintances, and associates, Robert’s has expanded its catering beyond Rutgers’ organizations to include institutions and hospitals in New York and NJ, as well as local offices and businesses in Newark. Parties and events are always more festive with fun and tasty items from Robert’s catering menu.
“Come meet us at Rob’s” is a frequently repeated phrase that reflects Robert’s value-based motto: Mo Fo Yo Do! [Tip for eating at Robs: Don’t annoy Aly…it ruins our day.]
